The right bag
for your kind of day.
Start with what you carry, where you’re going and how you like to organise it.
Choose for the job
| Bag shape | Often useful for | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Tote | Everyday outings, shopping and flexible packing. | Closure, handle drop, usable depth and whether small items need a separate pouch. |
| Backpack | Hands-free carrying of a larger set of essentials. | Strap comfort, fit, empty weight, accessible pockets and protection for what you carry. |
| Crossbody | A smaller essentials kit that stays close to you. | Adjustable strap range, closure, access and how it sits when moving. |
| Weekender | A short trip or larger change-of-clothes kit. | Dimensions, carrying options and the packed weight you’re comfortable handling. |
These are broad uses, not specifications for our collection. Actual types and dimensions appear in the product listings.
Four measurements worth checking
- Width and height: compare with an item you need to carry, including its case or sleeve.
- Depth: flat totes and structured bags use their space differently. Check the shape of the base.
- Handle drop: check the distance between the top of the bag and the handle’s highest point, if the listing provides it.
- Strap length: look for an adjustment range and how it is measured.
Advertised litres and external dimensions are not guaranteed usable internal space. A laptop compartment also needs a fit check against your actual device.
Care without guesswork
- Follow the product’s care label. Fabric type alone does not establish that a printed or lined bag is machine washable.
- Empty pockets and remove loose debris before cleaning.
- Use a cleaning method suitable for the material, print and lining; test an inconspicuous area if the maker advises it.
- Let a damp bag dry as instructed before storing it. Avoid trapping moisture in closed compartments.
- Check handles, seams and fastenings. Do not rely on a visibly damaged strap for a heavy load.
Reusable does not tell the whole story
Get useful service from a bag you already own. Material, manufacture, frequency of use and care all affect its overall impact; “reusable” is not a complete environmental claim.

Quick questions
Can I use any weekender as airline cabin baggage?
No. Check your airline’s current dimensions and allowances for the exact ticket, route and bag when packed. We do not maintain airline-specific rules on this site.
Does water-resistant mean waterproof?
No. Check the specific product’s description, construction and any tested rating. Seams and zips can matter as much as the outer material.
How do I keep a tote organised?
Keep frequently used items easy to reach and group small things in a pouch. Check the closure and avoid overloading it. Adjust your system around how you actually use the bag.
